Prayer

Prayer is God’s spirit touching and shaping human spirit. Sometimes it is gratitude. At other times, it is love and hope, a bridge to help, and a reminder of God’s presence in our lives. It rebukes our quarreling and wars, our sins and loneliness. It summons us to wholeness.

Presbyterians are a people of prayer – singly and together. Our Book of Order states that prayer shall be central to the worship service. At least once during a Northminster worship service we offer an opportunity for individuals in the congregation to lift up a personal prayer request. While we do not engage in alter calls, we believe in the power of prayer and will often pray by laying on hands of our new members, active elders, or mission trip participants.
